Interior Design Jobs
GS Magazine was launched in 1997. It was an exciting time for hospitality design as a new style of hotel was becoming mainstream, the ‘design’ hotel or the ‘boutique’ hotel. The two terms were inter-relatable as both referred to a ‘look’ and that meant for the first time that hotel management companies and hotel developers were looking to employ specialist interior designers. Prior to that, most hotel interiors were decorated in a small number of classifications like ‘country hotel’, or ‘city hotel’. And we all knew exactly how they’d look well before stepping through the doors.
Over the past 25 years the quality of design in hotels and restaurants has improved ten-fold. Not only with the ‘look’ but also with the ergonomics of design, the integration of technology, specialist lighting and sustainability. They’re designed to work operationally and to look stunning.
GS Magazine is now online and each month over 50,000 visitors log on to see the latest in hospitality design. We feature the very best of design in restaurants, pubs, bars and hotels, across the globe. See www.gsmagazine.co.uk to discover what’s hot and what’s not!
Designing properties that are to be used specifically for hospitality requires specific skills and knowledge. These are not just standard buildings; they are buildings to be used by two groups of people simultaneously, with very different needs.
Management and Staff
To run a successful hospitality business it is vital that those who run it have sufficient space to carry out their duties without getting in the way of paying guests. Back of house staff need to work unseen in most cases so spatial considerations are paramount. The operational needs of a restaurant are starkly different to those of an events space, a reception area, a lounge, a bar, or even a spa and gymnasium. These are the things that only designers with hospitality experience should be trusted with.
And that’s why we have created an Interior Designer Jobs section as a part of www.gsmagazine.co.uk
