Tamarind Terrace
If you were to compare London’s Indian restaurants with that of hotels then Tamarind could be The Ritz.
It’s established, glamorous, luxurious and reassuringly expensive, and for most, Tamarind is an occasion restaurant, one where you go to celebrate the special things in life.
And like The Ritz you need to book well in advance to get a table.
This year Tamarind is celebrating something of a milestone, it was first opened 30 years ago.
And to mark the occasion, they have launched a new, first floor dining space called the Terrace.
This is a 50 cover year-round dining terrace with its own central bar.
The new Terrace, nestled above Queen Street, Shepards Market and Curzon Street is a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of the Mayfair streets below.
The sun-dappled Terrace is open all day and has a retractable roof for the warmer months, but is equally charming by night with its romantic candlelit settings.
Originally Tamarind restaurant was situated in the basement and whilst the food has never been short of excellent, the basement setting was for some a little noisy and claustrophobic.
Regardless, it continues to be busy, despite the opening of a more spacious first floor restaurant space a few years ago.
This has now been joined by the Terrace so effectively Tamarind now boasts three very different restaurant spaces.
The Tamarind Terrace is the first solo project by designer Stephanie Barba Mendoza, formerly one of the senior team at Martin Brudnizki Design Studio (MBDS).
Whilst at MBDS Stephanie worked on the transformation of Annabel’s in Berkeley Square, Scarfes Bar at the Rosewood Hotel, Les Jardin du Presbourg, The Beekman New York and The Ivy West Street.
There is also a new terrace menu available from 3pm alongside the Tamarind 30th Birthday Tasting Menu.
This gourmet menu is a celebration of some of Tamarind’s best loved classics all rolled into one offering.
If you’re planning a visit, check out the delicious Rajasthani Churi Chaat, which is a sophisticated take on Indian street food, or the coconut and chilli seabass or the char-grilled lamb chops. They are all magnificent and memorable Indian dishes.
And do try to get a table in the Terrace area, it’ll help to elevate the experience even more.
