Restaurant and Bar Design Awards 2022 – The Winners

The Restaurant and Bar Design Awards judging panel have selected their winners and a selection of them appear below.

It’s an interesting choice.

They had to sift through hundreds of entries from over 70 countries to decide upon a shortlist, which appeared on the event website, and then to pick ultimate regional and category winners, with two overall winners.

Do you agree with their choices?

Having studied the shortlist, we’re not entirely in agreement with all the judges’ selections although we have to say that the variety and standard of work in all categories is superb; innovative, exciting and atmospheric.

Overall Winners

Overall Restaurant (as well as Asia Restaurant/Bar regional winner) – 111 Ones (Hong Kong, China) by M.R. STUDIO with photography by Steven Ko.

Designers’ comment:   1111 ONES Captivated by Antelope Canyon’s supernatural appearance, Myron takes cues from the Canyon’s wave-like structure and
geological rock formation, transforms the iconic organic forms and shapes, textures and colour palette into a surreal dining space that is unconstrained by conventionalism.

Adopted a singular design narrative informed by the natural scenery elements, Myron effortlessly infuses contemporary flair into the space.

The interior results in a placid place, reminiscent of the ravishing and tranquil environs of
Antelope Canyon

Overall Bar (as well as Australia & Pacific Restaurant/Bar regional winner) – Curious (Melbourne, Australia) by Hachem with photography by Lucas Allen.

Designers’ comment:   Curious Bar invites guests to lose themselves and bring out their inner child.

The Corian entry appears to show the wall ‘peeling back’, revealing a cocoon-like room with timber ceiling beams engineered in a striking parametric sequence.

The design palette is playful yet welcoming, comprising of rich and earthy materials, while the lighting creates a moody elegance.

Curious Bar chooses not to be safe.

It is engaging, bold and distinctive.
