Middle Eight by Shiva Hotels
Established in 2001, Shiva Hotels has a proven track record in site acquisition, development and hotel management with currently over 2,000 bedrooms in London either operational or under development, including five Hilton branded hotels.
Representing a new direction for the group, spring 2020 will see Shiva Hotels open The Guardsman, as announced in the autumn in GS Magazine Online, a purpose-built luxury boutique hotel on Buckingham Gate, and Middle Eight, in Great Queen’s Street, Covent Garden.
These new hotels will become a part of the new luxury hotel brand, providing the atmosphere, discretion and personal service usually associated with a private members’ club.
The hotels aim to offer a complete lifestyle experience.
Industry-leading interior designers, such as Tonik, will ensure exceptional style and comfort.
Stand out features include rooftop bars and swimming pools as well as a diverse array of food and beverage options.
This new venture is born of founder and Managing Director, Rishi Sachdev’s passion for the hotel industry and his desire to pioneer a new philosophy in the luxury lifestyle hotel market,
one that marries profit with purpose.
In 2014, together with his wife Meenal, he co-founded Shiva Foundation which is committed to tackling and preventing human trafficking and modern slavery in the UK.
Their Anti-Slavery Blueprint was successfully piloted at the DoubleTree by Hilton London ExCeL and the Shiva Foundation has since shared this practical guidance with other hotel brands.
Rishi and Meenal believe in cross-sector collaborative efforts and, through the new luxury lifestyle brand, will demonstrate that a successful business can and should play a key role in becoming a positive changemaker.
Middle Eight is scheduled to open in May, shortly after The Guardsman, and will offer 168 rooms and 12 suites, with interiors, designed by Tonik and Ray Hole Architects, inspired by nature.
This is brought to life through the use of natural materials such as stone and wood and a soft, tonal colour palette.
All five room categories feature bespoke furniture which ensures that Middle Eight’s signature style runs throughout, that space is maximised and that comfort is paramount.
Egyptian cotton linen and sumptuous bedding, rainfall showers, bespoke toiletries, Nespresso coffee machines, flat screen TVs and minibars stocked with complimentary drinks are offered as standard.
The 12 suites look set to become extremely popular, with combinations of signature indoor gardens complete with living walls of ferns and moss, trees and water features as well as outside dining areas.
With an all-day Italian-American inspired dining menu, Sycamore is a large, light-flooded contemporary bar and restaurant.
Food sharing will help to create an atmosphere that is fun, informal and sociable.
Sycamore will be welcoming and bustling during the day and by night the buzz will continue as live DJs take the experience beyond the delicious food.
A second restaurant on the Mezzanine floor, called The Balcony, will serve a globally-inspired menu throughout the day in a more tranquil setting.
In the basement, with its own street entrance, is QT, at once a bar and a venue, regularly hosting comedians, musicians and singers on its central stage.
A small screening room will also show video art and performances.
QT will be available to hire for exclusive events.
We look forward to reviewing both hotels when they open in the spring.
